We are looking for an experienced Universal Machinist to join our client’s team, at the maintenance centre at the Black Sea, Türkiye, responsible for the machining, repair and refurbishment of components used in offshore drilling equipment.
The ideal candidate is a versatile and highly skilled machinist who can independently operate and set up conventional lathes, milling machines and grinding machines, select appropriate machining methods and tooling, and achieve the required dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
The position requires a strong practical understanding of machining and the ability to work independently on complex and high-value components.
• Operate and set up conventional/universal lathes, milling machines and grinding machines.
• Perform machining, repair and refurbishment of components for offshore drilling equipment.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, machining drawings and dimensional requirements.
• Determine the appropriate machining sequence and method based on the drawing and component condition.
• Select suitable cutting tools, inserts, grinding wheels and machining parameters.
• Set up workpieces, fixtures and tooling accurately.
• Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, milling, keyway machining and other conventional machining operations.
• Perform precision grinding operations where required.
• Machine components to specified dimensions, tolerances and surface finishes.
• Carry out in-process measurements using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, dial indicators and other precision measuring equipment.
• Identify dimensional deviations and determine the appropriate corrective machining operation.
• Perform repair machining on worn, damaged or refurbished components.
• Work with large and heavy components using appropriate lifting and handling methods.
• Maintain proper records of machining and inspection activities where required.
• Maintain machines, tooling and work areas in good operating condition.
• Work closely with Project Engineers, Workshop Supervisors, CNC Machinists, Welders and Quality Control to complete jobs according to project requirements and schedule.
• Follow all applicable workshop, quality and HSE requirements.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant machining experience.
• Strong practical experience with conventional/universal machining equipment.
• Ability to independently operate and set up:
• Conventional lathe
• Universal milling machine
• Grinding machine
• Strong ability to read and understand technical drawings.
• Good knowledge of machining tolerances and dimensional requirements.
• Strong understanding of cutting tools, tooling selection and machining parameters.
• Ability to independently determine the correct machining sequence.
• Experience with precision measurement and inspection equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining and dimensional problems independently.
• Good understanding of materials and their machinability.
Experience in the following industries is highly desirable:
• Oil & Gas
• Offshore
• Drilling
• Heavy engineering
• Mechanical repair and refurbishment
• BOP components
• Wellhead components
• Shafts and sleeves
• Bushings
• Housings
• Pins
• Gears and mechanical components
• Drilling equipment components
Experience machining large, heavy or high-value components is a significant advantage.
• Strong practical/mechanical aptitude.
• High attention to dimensional accuracy and quality.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to solve machining problems and determine practical solutions.
• Reliable and safety-conscious.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to take ownership of assigned machining jobs.
The ideal candidate should be a fully independent universal machinist capable of taking a component from:
Drawing → Machining Method → Setup → Tool Selection → Machining → Measurement → Correction → Final Dimensional Verification with minimal supervision.
The candidate should be able to understand the component, determine how it should be machined and execute the work independently, rather than simply operate a machine according to instructions.
